This Tv was first available for sale on Amazon in Oct. 2011. I purchased it on sale in Nov. 2011 for $197. It's an updated model of Haier L32B1120. I have tested the Tv for over a week. I will now rate each kind in Amazon's ideas of 1 to 5 stars. My ratings are relative to how this Tv stacks up against other 32" Lcd Tvs in its price range.
Setup *** (3 stars)
For wall mount, you need a Vesa 400x200mm Tv mount. I used the stand. The 2 shorter screws go into the top holes which wasn't stated in the manual. For those who are trying to fit it into a shelf, here are the dimensions with stand: 31.25" x 22" x 8.5". The power cord does not have a brick attached which is a plus. I don't have a question with the connections being on the lowest of the Tv since I will only be connecting them one time. I reconsider the headphone connection on the rear lowest to be a manufacture flaw, but I'm ok with it since I have it linked permanently to my stereo ideas with this cable. (If you do want to use headphones, getting something like this should solve your problem) I'm using a Philips learning universal remote control which did find codes for this Tv, but someone else reviewer mentioned about trying 'Durabrand' if 'Haier' didn't work for you. I also had my universal remote "learn" the sleep button from the customary remote.
Picture ***** (5 stars)
As with most Lcd Tvs these days, the screen is glossy and not matte, so you do have to watch out for glare. I changed the preset picture setting to 'Theater'. Theater/Movie mode is regularly the setting that comes closest to a professional calibration. I also changed the Backlight to 9. There's a very slight flickering when it's set to 8 or lower. I watched the Tv from an Amazon recommended length of about 6 feet. After manufacture sure my video source is Hd and hooking them up with Hdmi (not included), I tried watching some fast activity movies and some movies with low light scenes. I didn't notice any determined picture defects. I especially watched out for request for retrial blurring, which it didn't have thanks to its fast 5 ms response time (for comparison, the Panasonic Tc-L32C3 has 6.5 ms, the Samsung Ln32D450 has 8.5 ms, the Lg 32Lk330 also has 5 ms, the Tcl L32Hdf11Ta has 8 ms, and the Lg 32Lv2400 Led has 9 ms). The viewing angle is very good. The incompatibility is good, with listed 7500:1 incompatibility ratio. I compared it to my living room Led with 10 million:1 incompatibility ratio. The Led has slightly better contrast, though certainly not more than 1000 times better, so I wouldn't read too much into incompatibility ratios when shopping for Tvs. I also like to point out that you won't notice a incompatibility between a 720p and a 1080p 32" Tv when viewed at a general viewing distance.
Gaming ***** (5 stars)
I hooked up my Xbox 360 via Hdmi and changed the Xbox yield resolution to 720p to match the Tv's native resolution. I tried a combine games and did not notice any input lag. By the way, make sure you never hook up your gaming ideas with composite Rca cables (yellow). Lcd/Led and plasma Tvs cannot natively display interlaced video, so they will need to spend time deinterlacing and therefore originate further input lag.
Audio * (1 star, 3 stars if it wasn't broken)
The audio sounds about right for a 7 watt Lcd Tv speaker, which is not great but passable for a bedroom. You can hook up speakers to it via coaxial digital audio out or headphone out. It doesn't have optical digital audio out (Toslink). I hooked it up to a Sony bookshelf stereo ideas via headphone out which did heighten the sound quite a bit. Now to my only question with this Tv. When the sound is arrival straight through the Hdmi, it's fine. But when I hooked up the sound via the 2 sets of Rca inputs (white/red) or the Pc audio in, I get static noises. It sounds like a slightly out of range Fm radio station; One moment I don't hear it, but someone else moment the static cuts in, especially noticeable during quiet segments. I'm ok with the 2 Rca input sets being broken, but I do hook up my Pc to the Tv so I will be returning the Tv with the Pc audio being broken.
Price ***** (5 stars)
Free shipping, free 30 day return, delivered to your door in 2 days for $197 is hard to beat. The price is changing between $229 and $199 on Amazon, so I advise getting it when it's $199.
I would have rated this Tv a 5 star if it wasn't for the broken audio. I assume I'm in the minority though, so I'm only deducting one star for my experience.
